Did you know....
· I was born in the Democratic
Republic of Congo (Congo, DRC) and moved to the United States
when I was six years old? Although I haven't had the chance to return back
home, I have never and will never forget where I came from.
· I have
lived in Lumbubashi, Congo DRC; Birmingham, Alabama; Omaha, Nebraska; Paris,
France; Oxford, Ohio; New York City, New York; and Chicago, Illinois? As you
can tell, I LOVE to travel. I
truly believe you have to explore the world to learn about others so you can
get a better sense of who you are.
·
I know that many people claim this, but I am convinced that I have the best family and friends a girl
could ask for. Everyday I count my blessings that the people in my life
inspire me to be a better person and/or at least laugh.
· I am determined to be a life-long
learner. Both of
my parents are college professors and they have truly inspired me to understand
the importance of education and that learning can happen both in and out of the
classroom. That’s why I am always down for joining a book club, having
conversations on topics that “aren’t suppose to be discussed at the dinner
table,” listening to a stranger’s story and perspective on life during my
commute to work, and exploring which higher education degree I want to get
next.
·
I have a
soft spot for a good inspirational quote or a self-help book that inspires me
to reflect and want to be more/do more. This shouldn’t be too big
of a surprise to you considering that my blog is called a work in progress.
·
Happiness
to me includes the unplanned events: a great laugh, good night out,
good night in, playing and watching sports, going to a concert, grilling out,
being by the water, running into an old friend or fling in the most
random/awkward way, a great happy hour, etc.
· I have a
weakness for many types of food including: chips and dip (guacamole, salsa…you
name it), steak, my mother’s cooking, cheese, margaritas, a cold beer on a
Friday night, and diet green tea. Perhaps this is why I am still trying to lose “the freshmen 15 and graduate school 51”
that I have gained over the years.
· Many of my conversations with my good friends
end with “My life…your entertainment” considering that my life has consisted of being a child model for Limited Too, riding horses professionally
in Birmingham, AL, winning the Nebraska female football “Punt, Pass, and Kick”
challenge twice, and being contacted by Tyra Bank’s producer to make an appearance
during an episode she aired about successful American immigrants. (BTW- I declined the request because it was
during my sorority’s recruitment week and at the time I thought that was my
more important. Silly Natu, what was I thinking.)
These are a few random facts about me. I
embrace my experiences (for better or for worse) because at the end of the day
I was always be…AMI NATU Boring. Happy reading :)
