A stroll in the park- Wicker Park

My girls Maddie, Katie, and I met for lunch at Native Foods Cafe, a completely vegan and delicious restaurant,  in Wicker Park today.  Feel free to check out their menu here. I appreciate that the 5 native ways include: 1) Everything is chef-crafted 2) Everything is made in-house 3) They are 100% plant-based and vegan, 4) Community is #1, and 5) They love food. Feel free to read more about their ways from the picture I took, below:

Katie and I both ordered the Twisted Wrap with sweet potato fries  and Maddie got the Greek Gyro. I normally would not suggest to my girlfrans to meet up at a vegan restaurant during my vacation, but I must say that I was pleased with my meal. It hit the spot and met my new year resolution of eating healthy in 2013. Don't these pictures below just scream healthy ;)

The Twisted Wrap- not going to lie, the sweet potato fries were my favorite!

The Greek Gyro

Added bonus- all new customers get a free drink.  My favorite was the Lavender Lemonade. It's made from scratch daily.

After lunch we explored Wicker Park. I've been there a couple times before to meet friends for dinner or at a bar so it was nice to walk around and get a different feel of the neighborhood. For all my friends who don't live in Chicago, Wicker Park is often described as being full of:  hipsters, vintage shopping, lots of cool artwork and music venues, fun restaurants, and hole in the wall bars. Although we did see all those items, my favorite find was this old telephone post and Walgreens because it restored one of Chicago's historic bank building into a flagship store.

The corner of healthy and happy

This picture doesn't give it justice- simply beautiful!

Overall, I am glad that my day off included good company, healthy eating, and healthy practices- walking and exploring the city. In order to stay true to my desire to have a better lifestyle, I am about to sign off so I can do Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred and relax with my roomies and girl Maggie this evening. Hope day 3 of the new you is also going well :).
