A Neighborhood hang

I am making the move from Lakeview (Southport Corridor/Wrigleyville area) to Lincoln Park in one month. Although I am sad to leave my current location that I love (random fact: did you know that “The Vow” was filmed outside of my apartment), I am beyond thrilled to move in with my 2 roommates, B and her cousin E.

I met B through one of my college best friends and sorority sisters (Molly) back in the days. B moved to Chicago a year before me and we reconnected and became really good friends at the beginning of January. I am so excited to live with her because I adore her and we are very similar. She is a young professional who takes work seriously but she is also always down for the hang.
Since B and I are counting the days until we move because we are that excited, we decided to celebrate 4th of July eve and hang out in our new neighborhood. We met up at one of my favorite restaurants, Gaslight Bar and Grille, and were pleased to see they were having a $5 special on their wine and salads. B and I both ordered the Carriage salad and it was so good that we agreed that Gaslight is probably going to be our go-to restaurant.
As we sipped our wine, we talked about the typical conversations a 20-something-year old would discuss: the joys of our jobs, men, bachelorette parties, upcoming weddings, reality tv shows/celebrity gossip, our girlfrans, and the next great thing we needed to do in the city. Did I mention that B is from a small town in Iowa? We are soaking up the big city because it’s unlike anything we’ve experienced in Iowa and Nebraska.  B mentioned that she found a quote on Pinterest that reminded her of us and I couldn’t help but smile when she showed it to me. After talking about the pin and how the message fits into our life, we decided to “be selfish” and walk by our new apartment (and take pictures, of course) and grab a drink at our neighborhood bar, Wrightwood Tap. B and I parted ways after Wrightwood Tap because she still needed to go home and pack for her vacation to California. Also, my friend Mike texted me because he wanted me to meet up with him and his buddy for a drink. I would have normally taken a rain check because it was getting late, but he hooked me in when he said to meet him at Kirkwood, a Nebraska bar.
To all of you who have never visited Chicago, make sure to google where your favorite college basketball/football bar is located.  Considering that I am a fan of Nebraska (the state, not the football team) and Alabama football, my personal fav. sports bars are hands down Kirkwood and Houndstooth (Roll Tide!).  The boys and I had one drink and I ended up taking a cab back to my apartment because I realized that it was way past my bedtime and my constantly yawning look wasn’t cute.

Overall, I must say, it was a successful 4th of July Eve and neighborhood gang.
